Timeline of Cape Wind's Mounting Problems

2015

Jan. 6 - Eversource Energy, formerly known as NStar, and National Grid announce they are terminating deals to buy about 77 percent of the power from Cape Wind.

Jan. 21 - Quonset Development Corporation confirms it has terminated a lease agreement with Cape Wind for a port facility in Kingstown, R.I., and an employee at a marina at Falmouth Harbor says Cape Wind is “not in the mix anymore” in response to questions about an arrangement announced by the company in 2012 to buy the marina.

Jan. 26 - Independent System Operator/New England confirms that Cape Wind is suspended from participating in New England’s wholesale electricity markets.

March 2 - Massachusetts Clean Energy Center confirms that a $4.5 million deal to lease the Marine Commerce Terminal in New Bedford for the staging and construction of the project's 130 wind turbines has been terminated.

March 12 - Longtime Cape Wind spokesman Mark Rodgers announces that he has resigned from the company.

May 19 - Court of Appeals victory for the Town of Barnstable, the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, and Cape Cod businesses, 
reversing the decision of U.S. District Court.  The reversal means the suit to prevent Cape Wind from selling its electric power to NStar (now Eversource) can now continue.

August 10 - Cape Wind's FAA Determination of No Hazard to aviation safety expired.

2016

March 29 - Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board issues tentative denial of Cape Wind's request for extension of vital permits.

April 6 - Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board issues denial of Cape Wind's request for extension of vital permits.

July 5 - U.S. Court of Appeals sends Cape Wind back to the drawing board to supplement their Environmental Impact Statement , analyse measures needed to reduce mortality and injury to endangered species, and procure a permit under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

July 31 - Massachusetts Energy Bill bars Cape Wind from bidding on the offshore wind contracts.

October 6 - Cape Wind dropped their appeal of the state's decision to deny their transmission line permits.
