'Sacrifice' would be in vain

Barnstable Patriot Letter to the Editor
Cape Wind's exploitation of Appalachian coal miners at last week's public hearings was truly reprehensible. Victims of the coal mining industry delivered heartfelt testimony asking Cape Codders to "sacrifice" so that destructive coal mining practices might cease. While I empathized with their pleas, I couldn't help but wonder who "educated" them about the Cape Wind project and who financed their journey to Cape Cod. The Cape Wind project wouldn't stop coal mining. It wouldn't even shut down our own dirty canal plant. However, it would destroy Horseshoe Shoal and imperil our local commercial fishing community, tourist based economy, and public safety. Two wrongs don't make a right.
