Myth: Cape Wind is not a threat to air and sea navigation.
Fact: Cape Wind would pose hazards to marine vessel navigation, air traffic control, search and rescue efforts, and fishing vessels and gear deployment.
Cape Wind ’s proposed turbines present 130 obstacles to navigation in an area surrounded by passenger ferry and shipping lanes, as well as low flying aircraft. Public access restrictions could prohibit any anchoring or gear fishing in the project area, which would seriously impact Cape and Islands fishermen who derive as much as 60% of their livelihood from fishing in the proposed project area on Horseshoe Shoal. Beyond unresolved air traffic and radar concerns, the project would compromise helicopter search and rescue efforts on Horseshoe Shoal.
